This is a public project that reflects on my sentiment towards to the discourse of smoking in a political and personal level. Started with defiance, I lit my first cigarette when I was 18, followed by the next 15 years of addiction. Often I struggle with the mentality of the demonization within society. the hypocrisy of conditioning a certain group with judgemental means. Years after years, I collect tobacco packets as trophies of my rebellion. In this piece, I assembled the evidence of my long struggle, and transformed into a costume. It took me exact one week of sewing, during which I stopped smoking radically. Then I wore it to the public with a sign stating below:
"It' been 7 days since the last time I smoked."
Then, I turned the sign around, showing the text of:
"Now I am going to smoke. You are free to leave"
Then I crossed the word "leave" and wrote the word "join".
I rolled a cigarette, smoking for the first time after 1 week with the crowd.
Then i flipped the sign again, changing the number "7" into "0".
"It's been 0 days since the last time I smoked."
