CORTÉS is a site-specific piece in collaboration with 8 artists including Yao Liao, Gabriela Sandoval, Panita Karnkunwithit, Sofia Sfyri, Martina Conti, Isabella Bruno, Georg Bütow and Óscar Cutello. Set in the historical Alcázar in Jerez de la Frontera, which was built in the 11th century, this is a devised piece with ambition. Adopting diversified methodologies over the period of 2 months, it was presented to the public with unique features of bare stage, horse wagon, fireworks and live animals. It is an imaginative piece, depicting a miniature of civilization of humanity; it references the colonial history of Hermán Cortés in the Aztec, by establishing a chaotic scene in the former moorish palace in Andalusia Spain.
"It is Sunday. It is an Anniversary.
We are going to the beach. We bring umbrellas, chairs and beers.
We spread civilization on the beach.
We spread ourselves on the beach to conquer it.
We civilize nature.
We civilize ourselves.
We drown our own nature in civilization
until we can t take ourselves anymore.
But still this has to work/ A perfect family day on the beach."
